AEW has announced the AEW Women’s title eliminator tournament during this week’s episode of Dynamite.

AEW Women's Eliminator Tournament

It was announced that Sixteen Women wrestlers will take part in this elimination tournament and the winner of the tournament will receive the shot for the AEW Championship match against reigning Champion Hikaru Shida.

AEW did not disclose dates for the tournament as of yet. Interestingly, the graphic for the tournament contained the flags of both the United States and Japan. It might be an indicator that the women from both countries will be in separate brackets.

Shida is holding the AEW Women’s Championship since May 23, 2020. Shida won the title from Nyla Rose at AEW Double or Nothing 2020 PPV where she won after delivering a running knee on Rose’s face. Since then, she has successfully defended the title against many women stars like Penelope Ford, Nyla Rose, Anna Jay, Big Swole, among others.

Her last title defense came against Abaddon on the first night of AEW New Year’s Smash on January 6 where Shida was able to retain despite Abadon biting her in the neck. It is likely that the winner of this tournament will face Shida at AEW Revolution 2021 PPV.
