AEW All In 2023 is a pro-wrestling event from All Elite Wrestling which took place on August 27, 2023. The event aired from Wembley Stadium in London, UK.

MJF defended AEW World Championship against Adam Cole, after they challenged for ROH Tag Team titles against Aussie Open on the pre-show. FTR defended AEW tag team titles against The Young Bucks in a trilogy match.

NOTES & STORYLINES

The event was officially announced on April 5, 2023 Dynamite episode by AEW President Tony Khan. This is the second pro-wrestling event under All In name and the first AEW event under this title. This event also marked AEW’s UK debut. It will also be the first major pro-wrestling event to take place at Wembley Stadium since SummerSlam 1992.

The total paid attendance was announced to be 81,035 by AEW, along with $10 million gate. This made All In 2023 the highest-attended European pro wrestling event along with being the event with the highest gate. The paid attendance figures were also the highest for any pro wrestling event, surpassing WrestleMania 32’s record with figures just less than 81,000.

Adam Cole challenged MJF for AEW World Championship, leading to an argument and animosity between them. MJF talked about how fond of Cole he was in the earlier part of his career They fought to a 30-minute time-limit draw in a title eliminator match on June 14 Dynamite episode. When MJF refused to defend his title at Forbidden Door, Cole motivated/tricked him to do so against Hiroshi Tanahashi where MJF was successful. Cole asked for a rematch but instead they got paired in Blind Tag Team Eliminator tournament.

During the tournament, their bonding grew with efforts from both men, and they became best friends. They won the Blind Eliminator tournament but failed to win the tag team titles when they got the opportunity on Collision July 29 episode. After this, MJF agreed to give Cole a shot at AEW World title in the main event of All In.

Later, Cole convinced MJF to challenge for ROH Tag Team Championship on the pre-show against Aussie Open. Aussie Open promptly accepted the match. MJF and Cole’s double clothesline finisher had become famous by this time, but MJF tried to introduce a kangaroo kick in his plans to beat Aussie Open.

After defending their titles on Collision August 5 episode against Brian Cage and Big Bill, FTR challenged The Young Bucks for their trilogy clash with the titles on the line at All In. The Young Bucks defeated the Hardys on Dynamite August 9 episode and then accepted the challenge from FTR. FTR kept talking about this match, and said their legacy as the best tag team ever is on the line in this match. The Young Bucks mocked them by saying that they would only be remembered as the team that was named by them on their YouTube channel.

Hikaru Shida defeated Toni Storm to win AEW Women’s Championship on Dynamite 200 episode. AEW announced a fatal 4-way match for Women’s title at All In 2023. Shida retained her title against Anna Jay to confirm her place in the match. Toni Storm get a spot due to her rematch clause. Saraya beat Skye Blue to qualify for the match. Britt Baker defeated The Bunny in the qualifier on Dynamite August 16 episode. These 4 women were part of a tag team match on Rampage August 25 episode where an accidental strike from Shida led to Baker being pinned by Saraya and Toni.

Darby Allin & Orange Cassidy defeated Swerve Strickland & Keith Lee from Blind Eliminator tag team tournament on July 5 Dynamite episode. Swerve defeated Nick Wayne in his AEW Debut match on July 12 Dynamite. Darby last eliminated Swerve from Royal Rampage Battle Royal to become the #1 contender for AEW TNT Championship. Darby fixed up a match for AR Fox against Orange Cassidy for International Championship. After the match, Fox turned heel. Later on the show, Fox attacked Darby during his match against Swerve to help Swerve. He also attacked Nick Wayne before joining The Mogul Embassy. On August 9 Dynamite episode, Swerve and Fox cut a promo against Darby. Darby came out to the ramp to reply to them. The lights went out and Sting appeared in the ring to beat up The Mogul Embassy. Sting then pointed towards the All In sign to hint a match at the event. AEW later announced that it will be a tag team Coffin match. After AR Fox was pinned in a tag team match on August 23 Dynamite episode, Swerve kicked him out of Mogul Embassy and Coffin match. Christian Cage came into the match to replace him.

Bullet Club Gold took shots at The Young Bucks for calling themselves the best brothers tag team in the promotion when The Gunns are there. This led to a tag team match between the Young Bucks and The Gunns. Kenny Omega sat down with Jim Ross for an interview where the discussion went towards his relationship with Don Callis and Konosuke Takeshita. Callis interrupted the interview and took the services of Jay White and Juice Robinson to attack Omega. Hangman Page later cut a promo where he said that Omega will team up with him and Kota Ibushi against White, Robinson & Takeshita at All In.

Don Callis was pursuing Chris Jericho to join his family/faction for a while now. After weeks of attempts, Jericho finally told him he would reveal his decision on Dynamite August 16 episode. On the show, Jericho said he needed to get back to his roots and join a man as vicious as Callis. They hugged in the ring to formalize Jericho joining the faction. As they were about to leave, Jericho noticed Callis had a painting set up in one corner, which was still covered. Jericho insisted on revealing the painting which turned out to be a portrait of Callis holding a cut-off head of Jericho. Jericho questioned Callis about it when Konosuke Takeshita attacked Jericho from behind. As Jericho was dealing with Takeshita, Will Ospreay came out to attack Jericho. Callis put the painting through Jericho’s head before Sammy Guevara made the save. Later in the show, Jericho announced that he would clash with Will Ospreay at All In at his own turf.

The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn failed to win AEW Trios Championship from House of Black on two occasions. The second match was July 22 episode of Collision. Billy Gunn was pinned in that match. After the match, Malakai Black told something in Gunn’s ear, and Gunn put out his boots in the ring signalling to retirement. The Acclaimed tried to continue their journey. Malakai Black revealed that he told Gunn that he was weak, which forced him to retire. HOB mocked Gunn and burned his boots. On August 23 Dynamite episode, The Acclaimed called out HOB which led to an attack from House of Black. Billy Gunn made his return to make the save and announced he would return since HOB disrespected him by burning his boot. Gunn then announced that he and The Acclaimed will challenge HOB at All In.

Eddie Kingston teamed up with The Elite at Double or Nothing in Anarchy in the Arena match. After Blood & Guts, Blackpool Combat Club started a 3-way rivalry with Lucha Bros and Best Friends & Orange Cassidy, with all 3 teams getting involved in several tag team and singles match. They defeated Best Friends in Parking Lot Brawl match on Rampage August 4 show. Eddie Kingston returned to AEW after his participation in NJPW G1 Climax 33 tournament in Japan on August 16 Dynamite to fight BCC when they were attacking Cassidy, Best Friends and Lucha Bros. He then announced a stadium stampede match with Cassidy, Best Friends and Lucha Bros in his team. He told BCC to find other partners for them. On August 23 Dynamite, Ortiz and Santana joined BCC in beating up the opposite team. Rey Fenix was pulled out of the match due to a beatdown from BCC.

Despite facing him several time from 2004 to 2006, CM Punk defeated Samoa Joe for the first time in a singles match in Owen Hart Foundation 2023 tournament semifinal. Punk then brought back his old AEW World title belt and said he is the real World Champion as no one had ever beaten him for it. Joe called out Punk for a match at All In. When Punk did not respond, Joe attacked Punk during trios title match on August 12 Collision episode and choked him out with Coquina Clutch. Punk came in disguised as The Golden Vampire who was set to face Joe in a singles match. Punk attacked Joe and hit him with GTS. He also accepted the challenge for the match where the “real” World title was also on the line.

Heading into his match against IWGP World Champion Sanada at Forbidden Door 2023, Jack Perry said he also wanted to win a title like his tag team partner Hook. After he failed to win the title at Forbidden Door, Perry turned on Hook after the match. Hook tried to attack Perry back, but he kept running away in the following weeks. Perry defeated Hook to win FTW title from him at AEW Blood & Guts 2023, which was Hook’s first loss in his career. Perry announced that he would retire FTW title on August 26 Collision episode but Hook attacked him and put him through the table. Hook also announced the rematch between them at All In Pre-show.
