In early June, a featherweight bout between Dennis Buzukja and Danny Silva was reported for UFC Fight Night on August 24. This was the first mention of this event. On June 18, Nolan King of MMA Junkie reported that UFC had requested permits from Nevada State Athletic Commision for an event on August 24.

On August 6, UFC announced that a middleweight bout between Jared Cannonier and Caio Borralho would headline this event.
