What is “I Quit” Match?
I Quit match is a special submission match in professional wrestling whose winner is decided when he forces his opponent to say “I Quit.” Each time a wrestler knocks down his opponent, the referee asks him whether he wants to quit.
The first known I Quit match took place at NWA’s Starrcade 1985 where TA Magnum defeated Tully Blanchard to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. In WWE, Bret Hart vs Bob Buckland was the first I Quit match, taking place at WrestleMania XI in 1995.
John Cena(5) in WWE, AJ Styles(3) in TNA, and The Rock(2) in WWE holds the unique record of never losing an I Quit match among the wrestlers with more than one match.
