WBO Ordered Josh Taylor to Defend WBO Title Against Teofimo Lopez
Josh Taylor’s next opponent is finalized and it is not Jack Catterall.
Josh Taylor was supposed to face Jack Catterall in a title rematch on March 4 before Taylor suffered a foot injury. However, WBO ordered Josh Taylor to face the mandatory title challenger Teofimo Lopez after his injury postponed the match against Catterall.
As a result, Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall is now postponed, and now Taylor is preparing to defend the WBO title against Teofimo Lopez.
WBO wrote to Bob Arum who is the promoter of both Taylor and Lopez in order to start the negotiations for a contest between these two boxers.
WBO granted ten days to both camps to reach an agreement or WBO will conduct the purse bid proceedings. The minimum bid for the Jr. welterweight division is 150K USD.
Josh Taylor is undefeated and is coming off a split-decision win against Jack Catterall last year in Feb. On the other hand, Teofimo Lopez rebounded from a loss against George Kambosos Jr by defeating Pedro Campa and Sandor Martin in his most recent bouts.
The date and venue for Josh Taylor vs Teofimo Lopez are yet to be announced. Stay tuned for more updates on this fight.
