Nia Jax New #1 Contender, To Face Asuka at WWE Backlash 2020

Nia Jax won the triple threat #1 contender match to set up a match against Asuka for WWE RAW Women’s Championship at WWE Backlash 2020 PPV.

A triple threat match was booked this week between Nia Jax, Natalya and NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair. The chaotic triple threat match had some major spots, like Jax being power-bombed into the announce table by the two opponents and a tower of doom involving all three of them. The match turned out to be more entertaining with the fact that Asuka was being herself on the commentary during that time.

The finish came when Flair put Natalya in a figure four and Jax had to break it with a leg drop. Jax then hit Natalya with a Samoan drop to get the pin. The two women going to facing off at Backlash, Asuka and Nia Jax, then had a staredown briefly.

Nia Jax – Asuka Rivalry

Asuka and Nia Jax had a rivalry going since the Money in the Bank qualifier matches last month. Jax easily defeated Asuka’s tag team partner Kairi Sane in the qualifying match and then in another singles match on consecutive weeks. Asuka and Jax were involved in multiple brawls during the buildup to Money in the Bank.

Asuka then won the MITB ladder match and subsequently, RAW Women’s Championship. Jax interrupted Asuka’s championship celebration last week on RAW. The confrontation led to Asuka dropping Jax with a kick. Later, Jax attacked Kairi Sane backstage and in retaliation, Asuka once again dropped her upon confrontation.
