Braun Strowman has won his first singles title in WWE when he became the new WWE Intercontinental Champion by defeating Shinsuke Nakamura on SmackDown episode of 31 January 2020.

The feud between Shinsuke Nakamura(or Sami Zayn’s stable) and Braun Strowman started around Survivor Series. Strowman and Nakamura were supposed to face-off at WWE TLC 2019 show. But an injury to Strowman led to the postponement of the feud.

Two weeks back, Strowman defeated Nakamura in a singles match which earned him the Intercontinental Championship title shot. The title match took place at SmackDown this week and Strowman started strongly. Nakamura was helped by some distractions by Sami Zayn but Strowman was not kept down for long.

Zayn opened a turnbuckle but when Nakamura tried to send Strowman into it, The Monster Among Men turned it around and slammed Nakamura’s head in the turnbuckle. Strowman followed it with a running power slam and got the pin.

This is Braun Strowman’s first singles title with WWE. Earlier, he won the tag team championships with Nicolas(WrestleMania special attraction) and Seth Rollins.

Nakamura won the Intercontinental title from Finn Balor at Stomping Grounds PPV back in June last year. His title reign lasted for 199 days as per WWE’s record.
