AEW Dynamite 1 January 2020 Segment & Match

The show starts with a video recapping the last couple of months for The Elite and how they haven’t been winning in that period. We hear from each member as we see clips of the Inner Circle, MJF, and others taking out the group.

Special guest Taz is on commentary with Jim Ross and Excalibur. We see a vignette that shows Darby Allin on a skateboard with a mask of Cody’s face. He burns the mask later.

Cody Rhodes defeated Darby Allin(rematch from Fyter Fest). Arn Anderson, nightmare family’s coach, was in Cody’s corner. The match went back and forth deep into 17 or 18th minute(20-minute time limit). Cody got her knees up when Allin went for the coffin drop and caught Allin for the cover to get the pin.

Backstage, Jen Decker talks with all three members of SCU. Sammy Guevara comes to them and talks trash to Christopher Daniels to set-up a match for next week on Dynamite.

Riho(c) defeated Nyla Rose, Britt Baker and Hikaru Shida to retain the AEW Women’s Championship. A fun 4-way match. Rose was taken out near the end by double knees from Riho and a slam from Shida. Britt Baker superkicked Shida and tried to put her in the lockjaw when Riho hit her flipper her over with the jackknife pin to get the win.

Post-match, Rose takes down Riho with a clothesline. She puts Riho through a table with a diving splash.

Backstage, Joey Janela is interviewed by Alex Marvez. Penelope Ford hit him with a lowblow from behind. Kip Sabian mocks him and laughs on him before heading off. Dark Order gets a pre-recorded promo, saying they will take out the group.

Jon Moxley defeated Trent with back to back paradigm shifts. Post-match, Sammy Guevara comes out and cuts a short promo, setting the field for AEW World Champion Chris Jericho. Jericho says he wants Moxley to lead the group with him and offers 49% of the ‘Inner Circle, LLC’ and a Ford GT. Moxley gets on the mic and says he has always considered Jericho a friend and a mentor. He will give his answer in-person next week.

Sammy Guevara defeated Dustin Rhodes.

Backstage, Page gets into an argument with Private Party.

MJF gets into the ring to lists his stipulations to face Cody. 1. It has to be at AEW Revolution. 2. Cody cannot even touch him until they get to their match. 3. Cody has to face Wardlow in a steel cage match and beat him. 4. He wants Cody to get down on all fours and he gets to whip him ten times.

Backstage, Jen Decker interviews with Jungle Boy next to talk about his match against Chris Jericho two weeks back.

Adam Page, who is drunk after the drinks earlier, joins the commentary for the main event.

Backstage, Riho discusses her match against Kris Statlander for the next week. Britt Baker interrupts her and says Riho just rolls in, steal a win and head off while she gives her time every week here. She also says Riho doesn’t deserve to hold the title.

The Elite defeated Lucha Bros and PAC win after the One-Winged Angel from Kenny Omega on Rey Fenix. Cody Rhodes joins the Elite in the ring and they beckon Hangman over from commentary but he just sips his drink and refuses to come join them.
