WWE NXT topped AEW Dynamite in both key demographics and viewership for the first time on 18 December 2019 since the start of the Wednesday Night War.

According to Showbuzz Daily, the NXT episode of 18 December drew 795,000 viewers on the USA Network. On the same time, AEW Dynamite got 683,000 viewers and was beaten by NXT by 16%. More importantly, NXT beat AEW in the key demo of 18-49 for the first time ever. NXT drew a 0.27 rating while AEW drew a 0.25 rating in the 18-49 demo this week.

Last week’s NXT episode tied with AEW in overall viewership with 778,000 viewers. The week on week increase in viewership for NXT is around 2%. NXT ranked at #27 in the Cable Top 150 and #37 in the overall viewership.

This week’s AEW Dynamite viewership is actually the second-lowest for the show since its inception. The lowest viewership episode is currently from 27 November which drew 663,000 viewers. Demo wise, this week’s 0.25 rating is the lowest ratings for the show till now. AEW ranked at #30 in the Cable Top 150 and was at #43 in the overall viewership.

NXT opened with a strong commercial-free opener this week, which saw NXT Champion Adam Cole retain over Finn Balor, and closed just as strong as Rhea Ripley defeated Shayna Baszler in the main event to become the new NXT Women’s Champion.

This week’s NXT episode featured the main title matches for Men’s and Women’s division. The show opened with the NXT Championship match with Adam Cole retaining over Finn Balor. The main event was the NXT Women’s Championship match where Rhea Ripley was crowned the new champion.

AEW Dyanmite featured several tag team matches and was closed by the AEW World Tag Title match between SCU and the Young Bucks.
