Formerly part of LAX in TNA/Impact Wrestling, Ortiz and Santana debuted at AEW All Out by attacking the Young Bucks. Later, they joined Chris Jericho in his stable Inner Circle. As the Inner Circle went into a feud with the Elites, they challenged the Young Bucks for a tag team match at AEW Full Gear 2019.

As they entered at AEW Full Gear, their new name was announced as the Proud & Powerful. The Young Bucks started the match in control and got some help from the referee as he denied the tag for Ortiz and Santana multiple times. However, as Nick got injured during the match(kayfabe), P&P was able to run the number game and managed to get away with the win.

Post-match, Sammy Guevara joined them in the ring for the celebration which also included attacking the Young Bucks once again. At that point, Robert Gibson and Ricky Morton, better known as the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express, entered the ring to make the save. The WWE Hall of Famers then cleared the ring with Matt Jackson joining them. Matt assisted Morton to hit the Canadian Destroyer on Santana while Morton also hit the suicide dive on the outside.

Proud & Powerful earlier attacked Rock N’ Roll express two weeks back when they appeared at AEW Dynamite to present the title belts to inaugural AEW World Tag Team Champions.
