SummerSlam 2019 Kick-Off Show

The Kickoff pre-show opens with Jonathan Coachman welcoming us along with Charly Caruso, David Otunga and WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix on the panel. They run down tonight’s card before we go to the ringside with Sam Roberts and JBL who lead us to a video package on Goldberg vs Dolph Ziggler match. The Miz has joined the panel now and he talks about the match and looks forward to getting Ziggler in the ring at RAW on Monday. He also says that it’s important to respect the Legends who paved the way and goes on and predicts we will see a Spear and a Jackhammer.

Coach brings up Randy Orton vs WWE Champion Kofi Kingston. We get a video package for that match. Miz says that this is the Randy Orton that he wants to see against Kofi and this is the Kofi he wants to see against Orton. Other panel members agree that Kofi should carry on with excuse of the alleged injustice against him 10 years ago. Next, we get the package for Charlotte Flair vs Trish Stratus match followed by an interview from Charlotte who says Stratus will bow to the Queen tonight.

Coach brings up the Fiend Bray Wyatt vs Finn Balor and we get a video package on the Firefly Fun House. WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has joined the panel and says the Mandible Claw could paralyze people. The panel goes over tonight’s three Kickoff matches now(listed below) before Coach leads us to a video package on Kevin Owens vs. Shane McMahon. Kevin Owens vows to stun Shane as he joins Kayla Braxton for an interview. Meanwhile, Drake Maverick has something for you.

We go backstage to Finn Balor when The OC walks up to him. They plug both AJ Styles’ match against Ricochet and then Balor vs Bray Wyatt. OC offers their help to Balor, he just has to ask them. They tease him with “Too Sweet” sign as they move out of the frame. Next, we get a recap of attacks on Roman Reigns and how Buddy Murphy revealed that it was Rowan who was behind the attacks. We quickly move on to the first match for the night as Oney Lorcan makes his way to the ring.

Drew Gulak(c) defeated Oney Lorcan to retain WWE Cruiserweight Championship

The bell rings and Gulak immediately dropkicks Lorcan into the corner. They tangle and Lorcan goes for the first pin attempt. They break and face off as the crowd pops. They tangle some more and trade holds. Lorcan goes to the corner and unloads with chops, stunning Gulak. Lorcan with a clothesline into the corner. Gulak comes back with a corner clothesline of his own. Gulak scoops Lorcan and slams him into the ropes for a 2 count.

He has now put Lorcan in a single leg Boston Crab. The lock breaks and Gulak quickly tries to get the pin. He puts on the headlock next. Lorcan comes out of in some time and hits a couple of European uppercuts, followed by an inverted bulldog. Gulak moves out of the ring where Lorcan slams him to the announce table before bringing him back. Gulak uses the distraction to lock Lorcan in a Gulag but Lorcan was too close to the ropes. Both men are down after they hit the lariat at the same time.

They trade strikes as they get up and after a quick sequence of moves, Gulak once again locks in the Gulag, and this time Lorcan rolls over to transition it in a pin attempt. Lorcan was looking to get in the momentum but Gulak grabs the apron cloth. As Lorcan puts back the cloth, Gulak chops on his neck and hits his finisher to get the pin.

Jerry Lawler and Booker T join the kick show panel now. Drake Maverick comes at the desk and says that no one is paying attention to the biggest story of the SummerSlam as he is still to consummate his marriage. R-Truth and Carmella were hiding under the glass table of the desk all this time. As Maverick leaves, Truth and Mella come out and start talking to the panel. Drake Maverick spots them and they start to chase each other all around the WWE table.

The match for the discussion in the panel is RAW Women’s Championship bout between Becky Lynch and Natalya. Natalya gets an interview with Kayla Braxton as the package for her match ends. After the panel discusses the match, Apollo Crews enter for his match against Buddy Murphy.

Apollo Crews vs Buddy Murphy ends in a Disqualification

Murphy looked to get a quick win as he hits a bicycle kick and covers Crews for 2-count. He puts Crews in the corner and continues to be in control with a headlock. Apollo comes out of the lock and whips him to the ropes. Both men end up hitting the crossbody at the same time. As they get up, Crews gets the better of Murphy and kicks him at the head. Olympic slam from Crews is countered by he manages to hit a Samoan Drop and a Standing Moonsault for another 2-count.

As Crews was getting ready for a moonsault off the top, Murphy kicks him in the leg and hits a running powerbomb for a near fall. Murphy unloads with some punches but gets caught with a knee strike. Murphy comes back with a knee of his own before the action moves outside. He kicks him from the apron and dodges a moonsault. He sends Crews into the steel ring steps and takes down Crews with a suicide dive.

As he sends Crews inside the ring, Rowan attacks him from behind. Probably, he is angered due to the fact that Murphy has rat him out to Roman Reigns. He throws him against the barrier multiple times before running through him. To finish off, Rowan sends Buddy Murphy into the ring post with a huge powerbomb. He then gets in his face and shouts something on the line of, “you say my name”. Daniel Bryan was watching this from behind.

Elias is out for a performance. He is doing his usual act, bringing out insults. Suddenly, WWE Hall of Famer Edge comes out to a huge pop from the crowd. He is the hometown hero here. He makes his way to the ring as Elias gets ready for him. Edge turns him inside out with a spear and celebrates at the turnbuckle.

Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross defeated the IIconics to retain WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship

After the replays, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross make their way to the ring. Bliss is in a Buzz Lightyear cosplay today. Peyton Royce and Billie Kay cut promos on how they’re here to take back what is theirs, and how they are the future and the future is IIconic.

Kay and Bliss start off and Kay drops Bliss but gets tripped in the process. Bliss dropkicks Kay and takes down Royce as she comes in. Cross gets the tag and goes to work on Royce. She hits a crossbody from the top to get 2-count. The IIconics turn it around and keep Cross grounded now, taking turns on her. Royce drops Cross again and tags in Kay for the double team.

Kay talks trash to Bliss while keeping Cross grounded in a hold. Cross fights up but Kay slams her for another close 2 count. Royce tags back in for double team. Cross hits a jawbreaker but Royce stops her from reaching Bliss. They both go for the same move and go down. Kay and Bliss tag in at the same time. Bliss unloads on Kay and drops double knees in the center of the ring.

Bliss with the backflip and then tosses Royce out of the ring. Bliss turns around to a big boot from Kay. Cross breaks the pin up just in time. Peyton gets tagged in and Peyton Royce hits a beautiful Spinal Shock on Bliss for a near-fall. Royce is throwing a fit for not getting the pin. This helps Alexa to gain the advantage and go to the top rope. She hits the twisted Bliss as Cross takes care of Billie. Bliss gets the pin and retains the titles.

The kick-off show ends with panel revisiting the match card before discussing the WWE Universal Championship match between Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins. That’s it for the pre-show.

The opening promo and vignettes get the main show started. Michael Cole welcomes us to the show, reminding us that this is the second time that Scotiabank Arena is hosting SummerSlam. He is with Corey Graves and Renee Young. Becky Lynch vs Natalya will open the show here tonight.

Becky Lynch(c) defeated Natalya in a Submission Match to retain the WWE Raw Women’s Championship

Becky Lynch enters first to a huge pop. She is donning an all-black look topped with a Black Leather jacket. Chants of ‘Becky!’ continues until Natalya’s music hits. Nattie comes out with Canadian Flag on her shoulders. They start off with circling each other. Becky slaps Nattie to start and Natalya replies with the same. Becky corners her and unloads. As she gets back, Natalya starts with some punches and hits discus Lariat. Becky corners her and gets some punches going before planting her in the middle with a bexploder.

She hits a suplex next and goes for the DisArmHer early. Nattie tries her best to not get into it but Becky locks in a triangle choke. Nattie tries to overpower her but Becky holds her own. Becky works on her leg a bit before the action moves outside. Nattie crashes Becky into the barricade outside and strikes her knee into the barricade. Back in the ring, she is focusing on Becky’s knee as she hits a suplex, sending her leg to the ropes. She uses the ropes to inflict more pain on the knee.

Becky makes a brief comeback but Natalya locks in the sharpshooter at the top turnbuckle. She really lays into it and Becky looks in too much pain. Becky slips out and slams Nattie into the announce table and then rams her arm into the steel steps. They get back into the ring and Natalya meets Becky in the top to hit a superplex. Nattie hits the big boot but Becky reverses the control and locks her in the Sharpshooter.

Natalya manages to get out of the hold. She has turned things around now and locks in the DisArmHer. Becky rolls out of it, but Natalya locks it in again. Natalya reverses the escape attempt to lock in the Sharpshooter. Becky manages to use the side of the ring to drag herself out. Natalya tries to lock it in again, but Becky reverses and locks in the DisArmHer. Natalya finally gives up and Becky retains.

Goldberg defeated Dolph Ziggler

Before Goldberg enters, Ziggler cuts a promo once again ridiculing him for being a legend who refuses to give up. He even wonders if Goldberg will even show up as he generally does not during his matches. He gets cut-off in between as Goldberg’s music hits. Goldberg enters with the Pyro and gets a big pop.

They circle each other and Ziggler hits a superkick early on. He covers Goldberg quickly but could only get one count. One more kick and once again, pin is broken by Goldberg very quickly. Ziggler gets ready for the third superkick but runs into a spear. Jackhammer follows and Goldberg gets the pin.

Dolph Ziggler has a mike and is asking Goldberg to come back. He says he does not have the guts to fight him man-to-man. Goldberg gets back into the ring and hits him with one more spear. Goldberg leaves for the second time and this time goes all the way back. But Ziggler asks him to come back once more. And he does as his music hits once more. Ziggler is not even able to move on his own. Goldberg kicks out the mic, picks up Ziggler, runs the ropes and hits one more spear. This time, he leaves for good.

The New Day is backstage. Xavier Woods and Big E say they got Kofi Kingston a big name from Toronto to escort him to the ring. It’s Drake. But it’s not Drake the famous rapper, it’s Drake Maverick dressed like a rapper. Drake does some comedy and leaves. Kofi gets hyped up about how he will teach Randy Orton a lesson and retain the WWE Title later tonight.

Ricochet makes his way to the ring dressed as the Nightwing. The commentary teams for various languages were getting their introduction and we see R-Truth and Carmella in disguise as the Japanese commentary team I guess. Drake Maverick reaches the area searching for them and has a referee in tow. But Truth and Mella are long gone by the time he reaches their table. We go back to the ring as Ricochet waits. The OC comes out next and leading them is the WWE United States Champion AJ Styles.

AJ Styles defeated Ricochet to retain WWE United States Championship

Ricochet dumps AJ Styles to the outside. He then dives to the outside himself, taking down AJ. And then he uses Gallows and Anderson to jump on Styles. AJ gets his own back once on the ring and focuses on Ricochet’s leg. Fighting with only one of his legs, Ricochet is in trouble. That is the focus of AJ’s attack. He hangs his leg on the ropes and pulls it down. Ricochet manages to kick AJ Styles in the mouth. Ricochet takes to the apron and does a one-legged crossbody over the top rope.

Ricochet hits the standing Shooting Star for a near-fall. He is looking to get back into the match, but AJ hits a swift kick to the leg of Ricochet to gain back control. He is thrown out of the ring and AJ comes out with a Dropkick to the cheek of Ricochet. AJ Styles is in control until he gets thrown back from the corner. Ricochet catches Styles in the ear with a kick. Ricochet locks in the Anaconda Vice but Styles manages to fight out of it.

Styles has Ricochet in the calf crusher. Ricochet takes some time to counter it. Ricochet hits the Northern Lights followed by a Deadlift Slam but could only get a near-fall. Ricochet takes out Gallows and Anderson on the outside. Styles takes advantage and drops him on the rope. Ricochet drops Styles off the ropes and is looking to hit the Twisting Moonsault. Styles, however, counters its to the Styles Clash and gets the pin.

Gallows and Anderson get inside the ring to celebrate with Styles. As Ricochet gets up, the Good Brothers hit him with the magic killer. Burial of Ricochet continues.

WWE NXT Tag Team Champions The Street Profits are backstage. They talk about being at their first SummerSlam and mention WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg dominating earlier. WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair appears and dances around with Dawkins and Montez Ford. The segment ends with the party just beginning between The Nature Boy and The Street Profits.

Bayley defeated Ember Moon to retain WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship

Both Bayley and Moon start strong and fight for control. They counter each other but neither can keep control. Ember hits a Springboard Crossbody on Bayley and then follows that up with a kick to the back of the head. Bayley gains some momentum back, with two clotheslines. Moon hits a running dropkick to score a two count. Moon applies a bow and arrow submission but The Hugger escapes.

Ember counters a neck breaker and Bayley avoids a crossbody. The champ starts to build up a head of steam with a clothesline. Bayley catches Moon on the Apron. She tries a DDT, but Ember gets out. Bayley ties Ember up among the Turnbuckles and hangs her upside down on the Tree of Woe. The Hugger puts on a reverse Boston crab. Ember pops up and hits a superkick that sends the champ out of the ring.

Bayley blocks a suicide dive but Moon recovers and hits a top rope hurricanrana and a knee to the face for a near fall. Ember hits a powerbomb for another two-count. Moon heads up for the Eclipse but Bayley runs up and hits her with a huge Bayley to Belly for the pin and the win.

Kevin Owens defeated Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon enters first and gets his ‘Best in the World’ introduction from Greg Hamilton. Probably for the last time. Kevin Owens enters to a big pop from his hometown crowd. As they get ready, Shane moves out of the ring, takes the mic and introduces the special ring enforcer for the match- Elias.

They start and Shane moves out once again. KO runs after him but Elias stops him. Elias keeps KO in an argument as the referee starts counting. KO realizes what’s happening and gets back into the ring. The sequence repeats once more but this time, Shane decks KO in the corner. KO fights back and hits a cannonball in the corner. He clotheslines Shane out of the ring and was looking for a suicide dive. But once again, Elias!!

Shane uses the distraction to toss him into the barricade. Back in the ring, Shane gets in KO’s face and hits a botched Russian Legsweep. Shane starts to take it to KO with a flurry of strikes. KO fires back with some punches of his own to no avail. Shane avoids a Popup Powerbomb and hits a DDT for a two count. KO makes a cover and Elias stops the ref from counting. Shane tries to take advantage but Owens drops him with a clothesline.

Shane McMahon mocks Bret Hart and then tries to lock in the Sharpshooter. KO reverses it and then hits the Popup Powerbomb. Elias distracts the referee. Elias tells KO to use a chair which would have meant that Kevin will get disqualified. Shane slaps Kevin. Kevin picks up the chair and throws it down. He argues with Elias and avoids the clothesline from Shane. The clothesline hits Elias. Kevin drops Shane and hits a Senton and a Frogsplash.

Owens takes out the ref and Elias with a cannonball from the apron. He gets back into the ring and sees the chair again. He picks it up but Elias pulls him out of the ring. Kevin uses the chair on Elias instead. Owens hits a low blow behind the referee back before finishing Shane off with a Stunner for the win. KO has saved his career.

We get the recap of the incidents around Roman Reigns that took place in the last few weeks. te two accidents, the revelation from Buddy Murphy and Rowan attacking Muprhy earlier tonight.

Charlotte Flair defeated Trish Stratus

They lock up and Flair forces Stratus to the ropes. She laughs at Trish and ends up taking a kick to the gut. Charlotte tries a Powerbomb, but Trish reverses with the Armdrag. Trish hits a hurricanrana and a headscissor takedown to avoid a Figure Four. She poses as Charlotte starts to look worried. Charlotte hits a boot to the body before Trish sends her out of the ring. Charlotte puts on the Chin lock. She turns it into an armlock with the pressure being put on the back of Trish.

She hits a Thesz press from the apron to take Trish down. Flair trips her going up the steps and Trish crashes down hard. Charlotte slows things down a bit as she starts to punish Trish. She pulls her kneepad down and drives her knee into the back of Stratus’ neck. Trish trips her and starts unleashing a series of punches. Flair kicks her right off of the apron to stop her momentum. Trish brings her back in and keeps dishing out more kicks to the body.

Stratus avoids a moonsault and plants Flair on the mat. Trish sends Charlotte to the corner. Trish tries a Top Rope Handstand Hurrincanrana. Charlotte reverses it and tries for a powerbomb. But Stratus manages to hit Hurricanrana finally and gets a near fall for her efforts. Flair nails a big boot for her own near fall. Flair attempts a Figure Four but Trish rolls her up for a two count. Stratus ends up putting Flair in her own submission. Charlotte gets to the bottom rope to force a break.

Trish sets up and hits Stratusfaction but only gets a two count. They trade chops as they get to their feet. Trish hits the Chick Kick for another near fall. Flair locks in the Figure Four and transitions into the Figure Eight for the submission win.

Flair leaves and Trish takes his time to get up. She takes an ovation from the crowd before leaving.

Backstage, Seth Rollins is seen getting ready for his match. His ribs are heavily taped. Bret Hart approaches him and wishes him best for the match.

Kofi Kingston(c) vs Randy Orton – WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match ended in a Double Count Out

Randy Orton enters first to his Viper theme. Kofi enters with Xavier Woods and Big E but they return from the ramp itself. Kofi and Orton argue before locking up. Kofi forces Orton to the corner but Randy is able to turn it around. Orton hits a headbutt but Kofi explodes out of the corner with a clothesline. Randy shoves him off the top turnbuckle and Kofi crashes into the barricade. He brings Kofi to the announce table and drops him on it with a side suplex.

Kofi avoids crashing into the steps and jumps off of them to take Orton down with an ax handle. They end up on the top turnbuckle where Orton attempts a superplex. Kingston counters with some clubbing blows to the back. He leaps off the turnbuckle and spikes Orton with a DDT for a two count. Kofi begins to build some momentum with a few dropkicks and clotheslines. He hits the Boom Drop and calls Orton stupid. Orton hits his signature backbreaker to counter Trouble in Paradise.

Kofi counters the rope-hung DDT and hits a dive from the top rope. He hits another crossbody from the top for a near fall. The Viper finally hits the rope-hung DDT to reverse the momentum. They both counter each other’s finishers. Kofi runs up to the top rope and jumps off right into an RKO. Orton is slow to follow up with a cover and Kofi rolls out of the ring. Orton stares at Kofi’s family for a moment and it makes Kofi go nuts.

He attacks Orton with everything he has as the ref calls for the bell for a double count-out. Kofi grabs a kendo stick and destroys Orton with the Kendo Stick. He then brings Orton to the ring and hits him with the Trouble in Paradise.

Bray Wyatt “The Fiend” defeated Finn Balor

Finn Balor enters first to get the great ovation from the crowd. The Firefly Fun House intro song plays but the lights go off suddenly. The Fiend is entering. Let him In appears on the big screen and a drum beat music is playing. A decapitated head of Wyatt appears in the fog. It is a lantern which the fiend is carrying. A remix version of Wyatt’s old entrance theme now starts playing.

The Fiend reaches the ring and the lights go on. Balor is shocked. The crowd is going nuts with ‘Holy Shit’ chants. The Fiend grabs Balor and drops down Balor with a shove. Another punch to bring Balor down. He runs Finn over with a headbutt. Balor jumps over him and but as he turns around, Wyatt is doing his signature backbend. He levels Balor with a clothesline to the back of the head.

Wyatt appears to have some mental issues for a moment before he attempts Sister Abigail. Balor counters and hits a sling blade and a dropkick. Balor goes to hit the Coup De Grace, he misses. The Fiend grabs Balor with the Mandible Claw and chokes him out. As Balor’s shoulders get down, the referee counts to three and Wyatt wins.

Everything goes dark again after the Fiend celebrates for a while. We hear Wyatt’s laugh and we see him in the ring as the lights flash on him. And then, there is darkness again. When the lights come on this time, Finn Balor is alone in the ring.

Seth Rollins defeated Brock Lesnar to win the WWE Universal Championship

Seth Rollins enters first and yes, he is getting a reaction. Lesnar enters with Paul Heyman who also does his intro. They circle each other as the match starts. Brock corners him quickly and hits a couple of shoulder tackles. He rams Seth into the turnbuckle on the other side. As he goes to the other turnbuckle, Seth hits a superkick out of nowhere. He hits the stomp quickly but could not get the three-count.

Lesnar hits the suplex but Rollins lands on his feet and forces Lesnar out of the ring. He hits a knee drop on Lesnar on the outside and brings him back. Lesnar counters and goes for another German suplex. Once again, Rollins lands on his feet. He hits another superkick and then another superkick. On the third attempt, Lesnar picks him up and hits the F5.

Brock throws him around and then hits two German Suplexes. After the third German Suplex, he takes him to outside to hit the fourth one. Back in the ring, the fifth German Suplex. The action goes outside once again and Rollins rams Lesnar’s head a couple of times into the ring post. But as soon as they come back into the ring, Lesnar hits a couple of more German Suplexes.

Brock locks in the Bear Hug on Rollins. Rollins reaches the rope, but Brock clubs the back of Rollins with a forearm. He then applies pressure on Rollins’ neck. He drives Rollins into the corner. Brock accidentally runs into the ring post. Seth Rollins pushes Brock into the German Announce Table. A Suicide Dive from Rollins and he follows with another one. The third time, Lesnar catches him and crashes him to the ring post.

Lesnar sets up the announce table. When Lesnar goes to pick Rollins, he superkicks him. Lesnar lands on the announce table and Rollins hits a crossbody splash on the announce table. He brings him back to the ring and hits another crossbody splash. He hits the stomp next but only gets a near fall. Rollins goes for the stomp once again but Lesnar picks him up for F5. Rollins lands on his feet from F5 and hits a superkick. He quickly follows it with a stomp and gets the pin this time.

The crowd was hot throughout the match. And more or less, it was hot for throughout the show. Seth celebrates in the ring as he gets the Title belt from the referee. He moves out of the ring and jumps on the announce table. Standing over the table, he holds the title high as the fireworks go off behind him. Good show.
