Rumor: Backlash 2019 Canceled!

Dave Meltzer is reporting on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE has canceled the Backlash 2019 event which was supposed to take place at 16 June at Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California.

“It’s(Backlash) off. That was going to be June 16th in San Diego. It’s because they’re going to be in Saudi Arabia and I guess they don’t want to do two pay-per-views just nine days apart. Because Saudi Arabia is June 7th. So they canceled that.”

WWE’s next special event is Money in the Bank on 19 May 2019 at XL Center in Hartford, CT. Earlier, the Saudi Arabia Event was to be held on 3 May this year but it was then rescheduled to 7 June. With only 9 days in between the Saudi event and supposed Backlash, WWE might have felt doing 2 special events in such a short period will be too much and they might have also wanted to build up for both the events simultaneously.

For now, the only a rumored match for the Saudi event is between the Undertaker and Elias. It will also be interesting to see if WWE will reschedule the NXT Takeover: San Jose event which is scheduled on 8 June, the very next day to the Saudi Event.
