WWE SmackDown Live Results and Updates- 9 April 2019
SmackDown will be live from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York,
New Day’s Celebration: The New Day are out for the championship celebration for Kofi. The crowd has “You Deserve it” chants for Kofi. Big E and Woods talk about Kofi winning the title at WrestleMania and beating the Bar at RAW last night. Kofi takes the mic and mentions his family in the front row. Before he could say much, The Bar interrupts them. They claim that Kofi was saved by Seth Rollins last night and propose a 6-man tag team match as they have brought in Drew McIntyre from RAW.
Aleister Black, Ali & Ricochet vs Andrade, Rusev & Shinsuke Nakamura: After a good start from Ricochet and Black, the heels corner Ali. Ali comes back with a tornado DDT on Rusev. Black hits quick moves on Rusev. Ricochet hits dropkicks on Nakamura and Andrade. Nakamura removed him with a big knee. Black knocked off Nakamura wit a roundhouse kick. Andrade nailed Black with an elbow. Ali hit Andrade with a hurricanrana and hits 450-splash on Andrade for the pin.
After the match, Randy Orton hits Ali with an RKO out of nowhere. After Orton exits, Rusev sends Ali out of the ring. Kevin Owens attacks Rusev and hits him with a Stunner.
Kayla Braxton is backstage with The Usos. She asks about tonight’s title defense against The Hardy Boyz. The Usos reply that tonight is about proving who is the best tag team in WWE today.
Carmella and R-Truth are out in the ring. They talk about Kofi Kingston and Becky Lynch winning the titles at WrestleMania. Truth mistakes Carmella winning the women’s battle royal to Carmella hitting body slam on Andre the Giant. United States Champion Samoa Joe comes out to the ring. R-Truth attacks him but Joe does not show any effect. Joe catches him in the Coquina Clutch and fades him out. Joe takes the mic and talks about beating Rey Mysterio in 55 seconds at WrestleMania.
He gets interrupted by Braun Strowman. They brawl for a while before Joe puts on the Coquina Clutch. Braun fades for a bit but gets back up as fans chant for him. He slams Joe into the corner to break the hold. Joe retreats on the ramp and stand with his title. Strawman also exits after this and meets WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions The IIconics on the stage. They offer him a handshake but he stares at them and walks away.
The IIconics vs The Brooklyn Belles – The IIconics are in the ring and brag about winning titles at WrestleMania 35. They say they will be fighting champions and will fight against any team, anywhere. Then, they introduce the best tag team they could find in Brooklyn – Karissa and Kristen, The Brooklyn Belles. The match starts and The IIconics gets the win some double team action.
We see Paige watching this match backstage. She gets interviewed where she reveals that she will bring a new tag team to face The IIconics next Tuesday in the Superstar Shakeup.
Shane McMahon’s Show of Power: Shane McMahon is in the ring with his Best In the World trophy. He says thousands of people came to WrestleMania only to see him take out The Miz. Fans boo him again. Shane is although having a hard time believing that Miz’s dad came out to the ring at WrestleMania and wanted to fight him. The fans are booing Shane when he says he punch Mr. Miz to defend himself. Shane then calls on Greg Hamilton and says he did not like how he was introduced today. Greg tells him that several WWE fans threatened him not to call Shane the Best in the World. Shane tells him that he did not need to worry about anyone else but him. Greg goes to introduce Shane as the best in the world, but Shane does not like it. Greg does it again two more times but Shane does not like it again. Greg goes to give a loudy and very lengthy Best in the World intro this time and Shane finally approves of it. Shane goes back after dancing around for a bit.
The Usos(c) vs the Hardy Boyz – SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match– After a quick start from the Hardys, The Usos sends Matt into the barricade to take control of the match. The Usos control the first part after the break. Matt counters Whisper of the Wind to start a comeback. The Usos end up clashing on their double superfly splash. Matt hits Twist of Fate and Jeff finishes off with Swanton Bomb to win the titles.
After the match, the Hardys celebrate with their titles. Kayla Braxton comes into the ring to interview them but Lars Sullivan comes out. The Hardys attack him but he fights them off easily. He drives Jeff him into the mat after sending Matt to the floor. Sullivan hits a big diving headbutt to Matt to close the segment.
Becky’s Wake-up Call: Becky Lynch comes out to the ring and brings up winning both RAW and SmackDown women’s titles at WrestleMania. She says she tried to celebrate her win on Monday butgot attacked by Lacey Evans, which reminded her she will have to continue on double duty on both belts. She finishes her promo and exits to the stage. Lacey Evans comes from behind and punches Becky again to send her down the ramp.
Sami Zayn comes out before the match and the crowd keeps singing his entrance music. He says the crowd isn’t worth it and walks away.
The New Day(Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods) vs The Bar(Sheamus and Cesaro) and Drew McIntyre: Woods counters some early attacks to bring in Big E and then Kofi for quick attack. A distraction allows Sheamus to drops Woods on the rope. McIntyre slams Woods through a table with a reverse Alabama Slam. Big E tees off against Cesaro belly to belly suplexes. Sheamus tries to distract but Big E keeps control over Cesaro. Cesaro hits a crossbody to take over. Sheamus and Cesaro hit the double white noise, only for Woods to break the pin. Drew has vanished from the match. Back and forth action continued until Kofi took over and hit Trouble in Paradise for the pin and the win.
