Welcome to the live results and updates blog for WWE Smackdown episode of 22 January 2019. WWE is advertising another loaded episode of SmackDown which will air live from Kansas just 5 days before the Royal Rumble PPV.

Becky Lynch and Asuka cut a promo

Becky Lynch opened the show stating that she should be at the main event of Wrestle Mania and she is willing to beat everyone to be there. She continued with Asuka may be the best in the world but she is better than her. Asuka came out, had a brief staredown with Becky but soon enough Charlotte interrupted. Charlotte boasted that she would win the Rumble and talked about ending Asuka’s career, beating Sasha Banks so many times. Before anything, Asuka attacked Becky from behind and the brawl began. Several referees and crew member came out to separate them. Becky was sent into the barricade and Asuka was sent over to the announce table.

Naomi vs Mandy Rose

Naomi attacked Rose during her entrance, dragging her to the ring and then Naomi threw her out of the ring. Mandy came back with a clothesline. Naomi hit a hurricanrana and accidentally sent Rose into the ref which allowed Sonya Deville to grab her foot. Rose shoved Naomi into the ring post and went for the pin and the win. Mandy and Sonya left quickly while Naomi was still recovering in the ring.

Winner- Mandy Rose via pinfall

Zelina Vega was banned from the match between Andrade and Rey Mysterio.

The Miz vs Cesaro

Sheamus provided a distraction for Cesaro to get an early advantage with a barrage of uppercuts, gut-wrench suplex, and a power slam. Miz hit a few thigh kicks before locking in Figure Four but Cesaro reached the ropes to break the hold. After trading punches, Miz backed Cesaro into the corner for some IT Kicks and running dropkicks. Cesaro countered a double ax handle from Miz with a huge uppercut. Sheamus sent Shane McMahon into the barricade when he tried to help. Sheamus also kicked Miz in the face behind the ref’s back so Cesaro can drop him with the Neutralizer for the pin and the win.

Winner- Cesaro via pinfall

Shane sent Sheamus into the steel steps and Cesaro into the ring post before cleaning off an announce table. He laid Cesaro on it and climbed to the top turnbuckle. Sheamus shoved him off and he crashed to the ground. Sheamus delivered a Brogue Kick on Shane. Miz tried to protect Shane from more attacks. The Bar put Miz on the table and then slammed Shane on top of him to put both men through the table at the same time.

McMahon mediate between Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles

McMahon and Styles were in the ring but Bryan refused. Bryan and Styles traded insults for a while with McMahon standing. McMahon tried to make Bryan get into the ring, but Bryan ranted about Vince. AJ chased after Bryan and they brawled at the ringside. Styles ran Bryan into the steel steps and brought him into the ring. Bryan took cover behind Vince to avoid a Phenomenal Forearm before hitting the flying knee and left with his title.

Samoa Joe vs Mustafa Ali

Joe started with jabs on Ali and forced him out of the ring with a boot to the throat. Mustafa took Joe down with a crossbody from the apron. Joe countered Ali’s springboard with a kick to send him crashing to the floor. Samoa Joe kept firm control for a while even with Ali mounting some offense with a series of strikes and a rolling X-Factor. Mustafa hit a dropkick to send Joe out of the ring before taking him down with a suicide dive and another jump off of the barricade. When Joe got back into the ring, Ali hits a trio of kicks and a tornado DDT. Joe pulled Ali off of the turnbuckle when he was going up for the 054 and locked him in the Coquina Clutch for the submission victory and kept the hold until Ali passed out.

Winner- Samoa Joe via submission

Rey Mysterio vs Andrade

Andrade started with some strikes before Rey hit a headscissor takedown and a hurricanrana from the apron. Rey hit a seated senton before Andrade countered a springboard with a dropkick. Mysterio hit a snap sunset flip for near fall. They ended up on the turnbuckle together where Andrade countered a hurricanrana and hit a big powerbomb from the top rope to score the first fall. Mysterio countered the second powerbomb with a Canadian Destroyer to even the score at one fall each.

Andrade pulled Rey out of the ring but was sent into the barricade. Mysterio hit an enziguiri at ringside before sliding out of the ring to send Andrade into the barricade with a sunset flip. Then, Rey hit springboard frankensteiner for a near fall. Andrade locked in an armbar over the top rope for the full five-count. Andrade countered a sunset flip on the apron and slammed Mysterio into the ring post. He hit the Hammerlock DDT but Rey got his foot on the rope to force a break. Mysterio hit an inverted Hurricanrana and then a 619. Before he can pin, Samoa Joe attacked both men to cause a disqualification.

After locking Rey into a Coquina Clutch, he grabbed a mic and said he came here to make a statement and he will win the Royal Rumble. Randy Orton then came out of nowhere to hit RKO and close the show.
