Carmella & R-Truth def. Jinder Mahal & Alicia Fox to win Season 2 of Mixed Match Challenge

Carmella & R-Truth outlasted Jinder Mahal & Alicia Fox in the Mixed Match Challenge Finals to earn the No. 30 entries in the Men’s and Women’s Royal Rumble Matches. Mahal and Alica seemed on shaky ground from the jump, as Alicia tagged herself in before Jinder seemed to be ready. The Singh Brothers made an ill-advised attempt to get in on Mella and Truth’s dance break that resulted in Truth clobbering both of them. In the chaotic final minutes, Truth took down the Singh Brothers and Mahal outside the ring and Carmella reversed a roll-up into the Code of Silence for the tap out victory.

This match quickly devolved into a fast-paced brawl. The Bar dictated the pace and the makeup of the match, focusing on Woods while bulldozing The Usos off the apron at every turn to keep the affair as a standard tag team match. After a sneaky tag in by Jimmy Uso, Usos controlled the match for some time. Soon, The Bar and the New Day decided to keep Usos out the match with Cesaro’s uppercuts and Kofi’s Trust Fall. The match moved on as a one on one contest between Sheamus and Woods. Cesaro then tripped Woods at the top and Sheamus delivered a Brogue Kick to win the match.

Natalya earned a hard-fought victory over Ruby Riott and celebrated by donning her father’s (Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart) jacket. As she tried to keep Ruby in control, 2 other members of Riott squad: Morgan and Logan, tried to interfere. Between fighting with Ruby, Natalya slammed down the other two: Logan received a suplex before being slammed into the table. Later Morgan received a spear and at last, Logan was again body slammed to a table. Both Ruby and Natalya avoided being slammed onto the table and countered each other. Ruby attempted a hurricanrana from the turnbuckle but Natalya counters and powerbombs her through the table to win the match.

Dolph Ziggler’s intervention helped Finn Balor to a shocking win against Drew McIntyre. McIntyre dominated almost completely in this match. Every attempt from Balor to counter went in vain as McIntyre utilized his brute strength. Bálor’s chest was welted, and his legs were wobbly after being chopped and tossed by McIntyre with ruthless impunity. As the action moved outside the ring, Ziggler blasted McIntyre with a Superkick as the referee was busy checking on Balor. McIntyre thwarted Ziggler’s attempt to use a chair against him and took Ziggler inside the ring. As McIntyre busied himself with Ziggler, Finn sprinted with a running dropkick that drove the steel chair into McIntyre’s chest, following up with a Coup de Grâce to earn the victory.

Elias won the match but ended up beaten by his own guitar by Lashley in the end. As the match started, both wrestlers traded blows before Elias got the upper hand and stomped Lashley outside the ring using a ladder. Lashley came up from behind Elias who connected with a knee. After both of them thrashed each other on the ladder multiple times, Lashley tried to climb the ladder but Elias came back and power bombed Lashley on another ladder. He started to climb the ladder but Lio Rush ran up the other side.  Elias shoved him off and got the guitar for the win. Back in the ring, Rush jumped on Elias’s back and Lashley hit a chokeslam. Rush then connected with a frog splash off the top rope and Lashley smashes the guitar across Elias’ back.

Buddy Murphy saw off the former champion Cedric Alexander in a fast-paced title bout at WWE TLC Kickoff to continue his reign as the WWE Cruiserweight Champion. Alexander came out crisp in the opening moments of the match. Murphy used his power to take away the luxury of a measured game plan and Alexander was forced to up the tempo and intensity mid-match. In the end, Murphy’s awareness got him the win as he forced Cedric into the turnbuckles, clocking him with another leaping knee and pouncing with Murphy’s Law for the victory.

Baron Corbin was massacred by a group of superstars who helped Braun Strowman to an easy win and get a shot at WWE Universal Championship at Royal Rumble. As Corbin came out hoping for an easy win against injured Strowman in a no-disqualification match, the referee of the match Heath Slater, Apollo Crews, Raw Tag Team Champions Bobby Roode & Chad Gable, and Finn Bálor surrounded him and decimated Corbin with chairs. Corbin tried to escape by getting out of the ring but Kurt Angle was present there to stop him. Angle hit Corbin with the chair and put him back in the ring where he faced every wrestler’s finishing move. Finally, Strowman came into the ring putting his leg over Corbin as Heath Slater counted to three. With this loss, Corbin is no longer the general manager of RAW

To call this one as the match with the best use of chairs in the whole event would be an understatement. Mysterio used the chairs to dominate the initial phase of the match but soon Orton started to grow into the match as the match moved outside the ring. After dealing some painful blows using chairs, Orton set up 4 chairs in a row as he went for the RKO. But Mysterio countered and superkicked Orton into the chairs. Then, he surprised Orton Rey and pinned him down with a victory roll into winning what was a brutal match.

As Ronda Rousey’s speed and tenacity were matched by Nia Jax’s power, it finally took a distraction from Tamina for the match to reach the result. Multiple times in the match, Ronda used her quick moves to gain the advantage over Jax but Jax was able to counter her using her brute power. As the match was into the final few minutes, Tamina distracted Rousey leading into Jax taking advantage. She went for the “facebreaker” right hand but Rousey instead put her in an armbar and Jax tapped out immediately.

Asuka defeated Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair become new SmackDown women’s champion

Ronda Rousey’s intervention helped Asuka to clinch the SmackDown Women’s Championship. In a match where Lynch and Flair were going full blow against each other, Asuka took her time to recover. Asuka appeared to be taken out the game as Flair and Lynch tried to climb the ladder. At the same time, Ronda marched down to the ring and tipped over their ladder to send them plummeting down to earth before making her exit without a word. Given an opportunity, Asuka made her move, climbing the ladder and unhooking the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Behind all the gimmicks, antics and trickery of “The New Daniel Bryan”, the Bryan is still a meticulous fighter. As both the superstars neutralized each other for most of the match, Styles was more aggressive and safe while Bryan was more crafty and devious. Each of them had their periods of domination but none could stamp their complete authority over the match. Bryan tried to attack Styles’ chest and also tried to injure his leg leading to a series of locks and counter locks from both of them. And the match ended in a similar fashion. Styles set up for the Phenomenal Forearm in the ring but Bryan ducks. AJ rolled him up and Daniel reversed the momentum to get the pin and the win.
